New York, 17 August 2011 – Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict Radhika Coomaraswamy remains deeply concerned about the number of civilians killed in aerial attacks including by drones in various conflicts around the world.

“Though we have consistently received reassurance that standard operating procedures exist to minimize civilian casualties in air operations, I still receive reports and allegations of casualties involving women and children,” said SRSG Coomaraswamy.

The SRSG urges all international forces to redouble their efforts and planning to ensure that such casualties do not take place with an emphasis on the protection of women and children.
