Forest Whitaker, artist and UNESCO Special Envoy for Peace and Reconciliation, addresses the Security Council session on Children and Armed Conflict.

Mr. Whitaker discovered the plight of child soldiers while filming ‘The Last King of Scotland’ in Uganda and decided to join forces with SRSG Zerrougui following years of commitment to the rehabilitation of child soldiers. In June, he formally announced hit support of the campaign, “Children, Not soldiers”.

The campaign, launched in March 2014 by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, Leila Zerrougui, and UNICEF, aims to end and prevent the recruitment of children by Government security forces in conflict by the end of 2016.
