New York – Leila Zerrougui, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, will travel to Sudan from 26 to 30 March to assess the situation of children affected by armed conflict and to witness the signature of an Action Plan between the Government of the Republic of Sudan and the United Nations to end and prevent the recruitment and use of children by Sudan Government Security Forces.

During her mission, the Special Representative will meet with Sudanese  authorities, the diplomatic community, UN and NGO partners to assess progress and challenges for the protection of children.

Ms. Zerrougui is also planning to travel to Darfur to meet children and families affected by the conflict.

Sudan is one of seven countries currently involved in the campaign ‘Children, Not Soldiers’, which aims to end and prevent the recruitment and use of children by national security forces in conflict.
