In a significant step toward strengthening efforts to protect children affected by armed conflict, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict (SRSG-CAAC), Ms. Virginia Gamba, and Her Excellency Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations in New York, signed an agreement extending and expanding the work of the UN Analysis and Outreach Hub in Doha.
Since its establishment in 2022, the Hub has worked to promote research, collaboration, and capacity-building efforts to support the protection of children in conflict zones. With continued support from the State of Qatar, the Hub will enhance its activities, broadening its reach to new conflict-impacted regions and deepening engagement with affected communities, practitioners and other relevant stakeholders.
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Virginia Gamba, highlighted the importance of this renewed collaboration: “We are excited to continue and expand our close partnership with the State of Qatar. This agreement marks a crucial milestone in our joint efforts to advance the protection of children in armed conflict.”
The Hub’s expanded activities will build on its three core areas of focus: mediation for the inclusion of child protection in peace processes, prevention of grave violations against children, and education in reintegration programs.
As the world faces evolving challenges, this partnership underscores the vital role of international cooperation in ensuring a safer future for the most vulnerable, the Children in Armed Conflict.
