Current situation

2025 witnessed a significant deterioration in South Sudan’s political and security landscape as tensions between the SSPDF and the SPLM/A-IO escalated. Ceasefire violations, mounting political fragmentation, and the arrest of senior opposition figures fuelled widespread clashes across multiple states. The SSPDF’s increased use of aerial bombardments and intensified military operations, heightened risks for children and contributed to a marked rise in grave violations.

Developments and Concerns

  • Welcome the collaboration of parties to the conflict with the United Nations to facilitate the release of children and the provision of reintegration support for these children.
  • Welcome the continued commitment of the Government to implement its Action Plan to End and Prevent the Six Grave Violations and urge the Government to ensure adequate budgetary allocation.
