New York – Leila Zerrougui, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, will travel to Istanbul, Turkey from 23 to 24 May, to attend the World Humanitarian Summit as part of the delegation of the United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon.

On 23 May, she will be the main speaker at an event titled “Strategies for ending attacks on health workers, facilities and patients”, organized by the Safeguarding Health in Conflict Coalition and RedR UK.

On 24 May, Leila Zerrougui will participate in the high-level Leader’s Roundtable “Uphold the norms that safeguard humanity”, which seeks to mobilize resources and exert influence to enhance the protection of civilians affected by conflict and to improve humanitarian action and access to health care.

Following the World Humanitarian Summit, the Special Representative will travel to The Hague, the Netherlands, where she will be the keynote speaker of “Watch Our Schools”, an event on the protection of schools organized by Human Rights Watch, and co-hosted by Leiden University’s Faculty of Governance & Global Affairs. This event will take place on 26 May.
