Leila Zerrougui, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, will visit Myanmar from 11-17 July. The purpose of the visit is to assess both the situation of children affected by armed conflict, and the progress made towards implementing the Action Plan signed by the Government in 2012 to end recruitment and use of children.

From Yangon, the Special Representative will travel to the national capital, Nay Pyi Taw, as well as to Mandalay and Myitkiyna.

The Special Representative will meet with Myanmar Authorities, members of the Diplomatic Community, as well as with UNICEF, the UN country team and NGOs operating in the field. She will also meet with children formerly associated with armed forces.

The Special Representative will hold a press conference on her visit from noon to 1 p.m. on 16 July at the UNICEF Office in Yangon.
