The new Government took office in August 2018 and while the President affirmed his commitment to implementing the peace agreement with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia–People’s Army (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia-Ejército del Pueblo) (FARC-EP), he also reiterated intentions to secure a consensual modification to certain controversial parts of the Agreement.

Limited implementation of the peace agreement in some regions led to
frustrations among communities, and in some cases, to the strengthening of non-State armed groups in former FARC-EP areas, thus exposing children to grave violations.
