Grave Violations
- 1,140 grave violations against 56 children (47 boys, 6 girls, 3 sex unknown).
- 17 boys were recruited and used.
- 33 children were detained for alleged association with armed groups.
- Killing (9) and maiming (30) of 39 children (30 boys, 6 girls, 3 sex unknown).
- 1,084 incidents of the denial of humanitarian access were verified.
Current situation
While the ceasefire agreement of November 2020 continued to hold, armed clashes between armed groups continued to erupt periodically, including in Tripoli, and the continued proliferation of weapons remained a serious concern. Crackdown on INGOs exacerbated the already dire humanitarian situation of some 16,700 vulnerable children who relied on services of the affected entities. Compounded with the trafficking of children, suspected to be linked to armed groups and security forces, this situation contributed to the persistence of grave violations against children.
Developments and Concerns
Encourage the Government to adopt the bill criminalizing child recruitment, and the amendment to the law on the recruitment age in the armed forces.
Alarmed by the spike in incidents of denial of humanitarian access, particularly following the closure and suspension of several international humanitarian organization.
Concern regarding the increase in child casualties, especially caused by the use of heavy weaponry in densely populated areas.
Concern regarding the vulnerabilities of children to trafficking that can lead to grave violations and urge the Government to take all measures possible to protect children from trafficking.
