Grave Violations
- 552 grave violations against 355 children (183 boys, 160 girls, 12 sex unknown).
- 175 children (105 boys, 67 girls, 3 sex unknown) were recruited and used.
- Killing (9) and maiming (6) of 15 children (9 boys, 6 girls).
- Sexual violence was perpetrated against 23 children (1 boy, 22 girls).
- Attacks on schools (12) and hospitals (1).
- 326 children (163 boys, 151 girls, 12 sex unknown) were abducted.
- No incidents of denial of humanitarian access were verified.
Current situation
Heightened insecurity, access limitations, and underreporting due to increased fear among communities impacted monitoring and verification of grave violations against children in 2025. The expansion of the attacks by non-State armed groups responsible for perpetrating most of the verified grave violations complicated the protection environment for children in northern Mozambique.
Developments and Concerns
- Welcome the child protection training for the Mozambique Defense Armed Forces and the initiation of training for the police.
- Welcome the progress made in the drafting of the handover protocol for children formerly associate with armed forces and groups.
- Concern regarding the persistence of grave violations committed by non-State armed groups, in particular the recruitment use, and abduction of children.
