Current situation
Northeast Nigeria remains a high-threat and fluid environment characterized by non-State armed groups’ activity, by the use of improvised explosive devices and targeted abduction. Combined with growing humanitarian needs and increasing challenges for humanitarian access, these dynamics have directly increased risks to children and their exposure to grave violations.
Developments and Concerns
- Call on the Government to promote accountability for grave violations, ensuring that all victims receive comprehensive justice and protection services.
- Call on the Government to increase public investment in child protection systems, and expediting explosive ordnance clearance, risk education and victim assistance.
- Concern regarding the continued high number of grave violations against children, primarily attributed to JAS and ISWAP.
